In 1942 The Little Grey Men, the story of the last four gnomes living in England, won for BB the prestigious Carnegie Medal for children’s story writing, and set its author on a full-time writing career.
Adapting the story for television in 1975, Anglia TV commissioned the distinguished artist John Worsley to provide illustrations for the 13-part series of 15-minute episodes.
The enterprise required the artist to produce several hundred striking paintings which were then assembled in multi-frame process using a rostrum camera and spoken narrative.
To mark BB’s centenary year, in 2005, Roseworld produced an exclusive and evocative Limited Edition Portfolio comprising 4 fine art prints reproduced from John Worsley’s original artworks.
The prints measure 14.5” x 16” printed on high-quality, acid-free art paper by the advanced Giclee digital printing process presented in a portfolio with details of both the writer and artist. Click here for ordering information.
John Worsley has been described as ‘arguably the finest draughtsman of the 20th Century’. He was a President of the Royal Society of Marine Artists, and an official War Artist; much of his wartime work is now in the Imperial War Museum, National Maritime Museum and Royal Navy Museum.
